Convex-Faced Combinatorially Regular Polyhedra of Small Genus
Combinatorially regular polyhedra are polyhedral realizations (embeddings) in Euclidean 3-space E of regular maps on (orientable) closed compact surfaces. They are close analogues of the Platonic solids. A surface of genus g > 2 admits only finitely many regular maps, and generally only a small number of them can be realized as polyhedra with convex faces. When the genus g is small, meaning tha...
متن کاملThe asymptotic numbers of certain kinds of regular toroidal maps
The asymptotic number (of isomorphism classes) of toroidal maps of type (3; 6) with at most n vertices is found, together with the fraction of those with multiplicity 1. Accurate lower and upper asymptotic estimates are provided for the number of toroidal maps of type (3; 6) with a Hamiltonian normal cycle and with at most n vertices. The case of type (6; 3) toroidal maps follows by duality. Si...

The classical approach to maps, as surveyed by Coxeter and Moser (“Generators and Relations for Discrete Groups,” Springer-Verlag, 1980), is by cell decomposition of a surface. A more recent approach, by way of graph embedding schemes, is taken by Edmonds (Notices Amer. Math. Sot. 7 (1960), 646), Tutte (Canad. J. Math. 31 (5) (1979), 986-1004), and others. Our intention is to formulate a purely...
متن کاملNon-Commutative Moduli Spaces, Dielectric Tori and T-duality
We review and extend recent work on the application of the noncommutative geometric framework to an interpretation of the moduli space of vacua of certain deformations of N = 4 super Yang-Mills theories. We present a simple worldsheet calculation that reproduces the field theory results and sheds some light on the dynamics of the Dbrane bubbles. Different regions of moduli space are associated ...
